Here are a few questions we've received so far...
What time does the event start?
Kids Muddy Madness - July 13th - Westwood Park, Morton IL - Those who have not registered on-line can arrive at 11 am for registration. The wave times will begin at 9:05am-1p. Those kids who have registered on-line in advance will be notified via email the week prior to the event letting you know when to arrive at the event and what time their age wave runs. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU REGISTER ON-LINE SEVERAL WEEKS PRIOR TO EVENT.
How many obstacles will be on the course?
There will be 9-11 total obstacles, which are now listed under "Obstacles", but the final determination will depend on our awesome sponsorship opportunities and time allotment; there will be several obstacles for the 200 yard dash.
Can I bring my pet to the park?
Sorry, pets are not allowed at the park. This is a park district policy.
Can adults participate?
Sorry, this is just a kids run, but if you hang around to the end, for a small donation to St. Jude, parents can try out the mud pit (noncompetively, of course). In fact, we'll let just about anyone try it out if you sign a waiver and make a donation to St. Jude!
I'm coming from out of town, where can I stay?

Must my child fundraise?
We'd sure prefer it, but you can also just pay the entry fee and get dirty. We are trying to make a HUGE donation to St. Jude, so any and all donations will be gladly accepted. We are asking everyone to bring any fundraising dollars with them on event day with checks made payable to St. Jude. We will have 100% of the entry fees and donations raised by the dirty kids go to directly to St Jude. We will be underwriting our expenses and needed supplies with separate donations and underwriters.
I'm nervous about the difficulty of the obstacles? And what about the woods?
The obstacles for the 1 mile course will have volunteers stationed at all times during the race to help the kids safely conquer them. Safety is our primary concern- fun and fundraising come second! We will allow a parent to run with any child that may not be quite ready to run the 1 mile on their own; Parents will be allowed to accompany the child at no additional charge. What we do ask is if you are a parent running that if you see any child struggling at all along the course that you help them as well. The path in the wood is 8' wide and well graded. We will be spraying the perimeter of the path for poison ivy the week of the race. We would advise rinsing off shortly after your child finishes the race. There will be some hilly areas and a bit of water, but nothing too risky. We have kids too!
Will I be able to see my child throughout the race?
For the 2-6 year olds, absolutely! All kids 2-6 years of age will run the 200 yard dash. Kids ages 7-17 will run the 1 mile course. Part of the 1 mile course is down a trail thru the woods and out of the parents' sight, but we'll have plenty of volunteers along the way to make sure all the kids are doing well.
Once my child finishes the run, how do I get them clean?
We will have several water/shower/hose stations set up to hose the kids off. The water will not be heated and get them mostly clean. You will want to bring a change of clothes and a towel for the ride home.
What attire should my kids wear during the run?
Kids will be required to wear closed-toe shoes; no sandals, no bare feet please. The shoes and clothing will most likely get dirty beyond cleaning, so wear something you are comfortable disposing of. They must wear shirt, shorts/pants & closed-toe shoes- socks are recommended too! We would also suggest wearing a swim suit under the running clothes for ease of cleaning.
If we get to the event and my child decides not to run, what happens?
Nothing! We will not require ANY child to run the course if they are not fully comfortable. This is just a fun day to raise money for St. Jude, so no worries if they change their mind! They will still receive their tshirt and other goodies. All fundraised dollars will go to St. Jude & no registration fees will be refunded.
How will we know who will win the fundraising prize?
The winner of the fundraising prize will be contacted after the final tally is done and posted on the website! Good luck to EVERYONE!
Will there be food available at the event?
YES!! There will be hot grilled pork chops, brats, and hot dogs available for purchase. Support St. Jude by eating lunch! :)
